Gary Cox grew up overlooking the Indian Ocean on the KZN lower South Coast. After qualifying with a Nat. Diploma in Landscape design from Durban Technikon he worked for small, medium and large landscaping companies on the Lower South Coast, North Coast and Durban central. Projects varied from Beach front developments, schools, private homes, Estate layouts, Golf Courses and commercial & industrial landscaping.
A highlight for Gary was to work closely with the late Jeremy Stubbs in the KZN midlands where he immersed himself in the surrounding mist belt forest and grassland environment with its endlessly changing views and moods. With Jeremy imparting his intimate knowledge of grasslands and indigenous plant species onto Gary, he was able to gain a strong sensitivity to the landscape and the sites he worked on.
Gary has worked on projects in and around the Free State, Commercial and residential, which has given him an understanding of cold climate gardening.
After working extensively in South Africa, he lived and worked in Windsor, England, where he was head gardener of Cranbourne Court - a 6,5ha estate home in the great park between Windsor and Ascot. He designed and upgraded areas on the estate and gardened there for 4 years carrying out construction projects and maintenance of the estate. He used this time to travel to Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rico and Panama.
He returned home to form Enviromental Studios Landscaping basing himself in Balgowan, in the KZN Midlands. From his home studio he designed and consulted for his clients who range from private homes, farms, eco-estates, developers and architects.
